About ITHAR
A name with a purpose.
Īthār (إيثار) is the Islamic virtue of putting others first, even when we ourselves are in need. It is the character we hope to nurture through everything we do.
Our mission
To nurture generations grounded in Islamic knowledge, equipped with beneficial skills, and inspired to serve others.
Our vision in action
From Knowledge to Service.
Islamic knowledge is our foundation. Through Islamic education, youth development, and community service, we seek to nurture faith, equip the next generation with beneficial skills, and support those in need. Guided by the virtue of Ithar (selflessness), we strive to turn knowledge into meaningful action.
ITHAR Institute for Islamic Sciences is a federally incorporated Canadian not-for-profit based in Calgary, Alberta.
Our guiding outlook
Knowledge that lasts.
We hope the knowledge shared through ITHAR continues to benefit others, even beyond our own lifetimes.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
إِذَا مَاتَ الْإِنْسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ: إِلَّا مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ جَارِيَةٍ، أَوْ عِلْمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ، أَوْ وَلَدٍ صَالِحٍ يَدْعُو لَهُ.
“When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
Sahih Muslim 1631Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
